I just watched Mirror Noir, the new Arcade Fire tour doc/avant garde film and I think I've finally come to terms with the fact that one of my favorite bands are kinda butt-holes. I know it isn't out of the ordinary for rock stars to be total pricks, but usually it is apparent from the outset that this person is not common people and this self entitlement soon becomes a reason they stay relevant. Would Kanye be the voice of this generation of this decade if he wasn't pissing people off hourly with his self absorbed rants? Would the Beatles have created Sgt. Peppers if they didn't know they were the greatest band in the world and have the clout to make sure they could use their creative license?
The thing with Arcade Fire, is I want them to be good people too. I want to invite them over to play Scategories on Friday night. I want to be able to call them up when I want to know who their tailor is...But alas, the more I hear about them, the more I feel like they would call and cancel our scategories night at the last minute IF AT ALL. Geeze, maybe they should take some notes from Wilco. They are such nice guys. They would at least have the decency to return my calls.
